Responding to the growing demand for home/personal defense firearms, Weatherby has expanded its Threat Response (TR) line with three new shotgun models: the SA-459 TR semi-auto, the PA-08 TR pump and the PA-459 Digital TR pump.  In addition, a new TR accessory rail allows quick mounting of a flashlight or laser sight to any TR model and many other shotgun brands.

SA-459 TR

Key features of the SA-459 TR semi-auto shotgun include a trim forend for easy handling and a bolt with an oversized hourglass design that makes it easy to locate and operate.  The ergonomic pistol grip-style buttstock has a rubber-textured grip area for snag-free shouldering.  Ideal for female or smaller shooters, the SA-459 TR minimizes felt recoil with its gas-operated semi-auto action.  A short 13.5-inch length of pull helps enhance the shotgun’s effectiveness in close-range threat-response situations.

The SA-459 TR’s short, defensive-length (18.5 inches) barrel is chrome-lined for easy cleaning and added durability.  For mounting sights and optics, a Picatinny rail is installed on the receiver.  The rail includes a LPA-style ghost ring rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation.  The front sight is a red fiber optic bead.

Available in 12 or 20 gauge, the SA-459 TR sports matte black metalwork and a black lightweight injection-molded synthetic stock.  The shotgun weighs seven pounds.  Manufacturer’s suggested retail price: $659.

PA-08 TR

With a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $368, the PA-08 TR offers a high-value combination of features, fit and finish.  The easy-to-use pump design and dual action bar system have proven their dependability with the sporting version of the PA-08.  A bladed white dot front sight is readily visible when aiming, even in low-light conditions.

Available in 12 gauge, the PA-08 TR has matte black metalwork and a black lightweight injection-molded synthetic stock.  The barrel is 18.5 inches long and chrome lined.  The PA-08 TR weighs 6.75 pounds, measures 39 inches in length and has a 14-inch length of pull.

PA-459 Digital TR

Building on the successful 2010 introduction of the PA-459, the Digital TR model can do double duty as a pump shotgun for threat-response situations and hunting.  The universal digital camo pattern is especially suited for close-range varmint shooting.

Other key features: ergonomic pistol grip-style buttstock, rubber-textured grip area, 13.5-inch length of pull, lightweight injection-molded stock, low-density recoil pad and matte black finish on all metalwork.  An extended forend and slide release allows quick and easy function of the action.  A mil-spec Picatinny rail is installed on the receiver for mounting sights and optics.  The rail has a LPA-style ghost ring rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation.

The 18.5-inch chrome-lined barrel is fitted with a .810-inch-1mm extended removable ported cylinder choke tube for application-specific patterning.  The front sight is a red fiber optic bead for quick target acquisition.

Available in 12 gauge, the PA-459 Digital TR weighs seven pounds and measures 39 inches in overall length.  Manufacturer’s suggested retail price: $499.

TR Accessory Rail

Weatherby’s new TR Accessory Rail provides quick-mounting capability and the flexibility to add a flashlight or laser sight to TR shotguns, as well as a number of other shotgun brands.  The rail attaches to the screw-on end cap of the shotgun and allows for positioning on the left, right or underside.
