Longbeards Beware: Weatherby® Offers New Turkey-Specific Shotguns
Weatherby’s ® 2012 line features four new turkey-specific shotguns based on successful and field-proven pump and semi-auto models introduced in recent years.
The PA-459™ Turkey and PA-08™ Turkey are 12-gauge pump shotguns, while the SA-459™ Turkey semi-auto is available in 12 or 20 gauge. Each model sports the Mothwing® Spring Mimicry® camouflage pattern on the stock and forend components. Utilizing advanced computer technology, this hunting camouflage pattern is based on bark- and leaf-mimicking moths, accented with natural ground cover found in the spring. A special dipping process adheres the camo directly to the stock surfaces for added durability.
“Mothwing Spring Mimicry is one of the most effective turkey patterns ever developed,” said Mike Schwiebert, Weatherby’s marketing manager. “It helps keep hunters concealed and in position to use the other features of our turkey guns to their best advantage. Overall, these are quality-built shotguns that offer reliable performance at a great value.”
Each of the new turkey-specific models has matte black metalwork to prevent glare. Swivel studs are included.
The PA-459 Turkey has a 21 ¼-inch barrel with removable extended choke tube (Extra Full). A short 13.5-inch length of pull helps prevent the gun from snagging on hunting vests. Designed for comfort and sure handling, the shotgun’s ergonomic pistol grip-style buttstock has a rubber-textured grip area.
A Mil-spec Picatinny rail is installed on the action for mounting optical sights. The rail has a rugged LPA-style ghost ring rear sight that is easily adjustable for windage and elevation. A blade front sight with a fiber optic pin is designed for quick target acquisition.
Key features of the PA-08 Turkey include its field-tested, easy-to-use pump design and dependable dual action bar system. The rugged lightweight stock is injection molded. A removable choke tube (Full) easily screws in or out of the 22-inch barrel.
The SA-459 Turkey offers a trim forend and pistol grip-style buttstock for easy handling, while the gas-operated semi-auto action helps reduce felt recoil. Like the PA-459 Turkey, the SA-459 Turkey has a 13.5 inch length of pull. An hourglass bolt handle is oversized for easy location and operation. With these features, the 20-gauge model is especially suited for female or smaller shooters. The 21 ¼-inch barrel comes with a removable extended ported choke tube (Extra Full). A mil-spec Picatinny rail, LPA-style ghost ring rear sight and blade front sight with fiber optic pin are standard.
Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices: PA-459 Turkey, $499; PA-08 Turkey, $399; SA-459 Turkey, $699.
