2. Does Weatherby still make rifle scopes? If not, what scope do they recommend?

A. Weatherby no longer manufactures scopes, nor do we promote any particular brand of scope. We do recommend, however, due to the amount of recoil sometimes experienced with the larger magnum rifles, you choose a well-made, high quality scope.

3. Will Weatherby ever make left-handed rifles again, if so what calibers?

A. All Weatherby Mark V® rifles (.257 Wby Mag. - .460 Wby Mag.) can be ordered as a left-hand model. For more information, please call the Weatherby Custom Shop at (805) 227-2600.

4. Weatherby offers rifles in standard caliber chamberings. Do they make ammunition for them?

A. Weatherby currently manufactures ammunition for Weatherby Magnum calibers only, and has no intentions to manufacture on an ongoing basis standard cartridge ammunition. Weatherby recommends you purchase premium standard cartridge ammunition from a high quality ammunition manufacturer.

NOTE – Weatherby did produce a small run of non-Weatherby caliber ammunition in 1997. Calibers included: .270 Win., .30-06 Spfd., 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .338 Win. Mag., and .375 H&H Mag.

5. Can I send my rifle back to Weatherby to have an Accubrake installed?

A. There are Weatherby-authorized Accubrake installation centers located across the United States. You can have an Accubrake installed on your rifle at any one of these centers or in the Weatherby Custom Shop in Paso Robles, CA. The work done by these centers is the same as would be done by the factory and the warranty of the rifle would still be in place. A list of these authorized installation centers can be found on this web site or you can call Weatherby for a list.

6. Can I send my rifle back to Weatherby for rebluing and installation of a new stock?

A. Yes - your rifle can be sent to Weatherby for refurbishing or modification.

7. Does Weatherby have an accuracy guarantee, and what should I do if my rifle does not shoot within the guarantee?

A. All Weatherby (Mark V® and Vanguard®) rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 1 1/2" (or better) 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with Weatherby factory ammunition. For Weatherby rifles chambered in non-Weatherby calibers, the guarantee is effective when premium loads are used. All Weatherby® Vanguard rifles come with a factory-shot, 3-shot target as your assurance of accuracy. If for some reason your rifle does not shoot within the guarantee, Weatherby advises you to send the rifle to a Weatherby-authorized service center. After being tested by the service center, if indeed it does not shoot within the guarantee and the rifle has not been altered, the service center will repair the rifle under warranty, or forward it to the factory for inspection and replacement approval, if deemed necessary.

Select models (SUB-MOA) are guaranteed to shoot .99" or less at 100 yards when used with specified Weatherby factory or premium ammunition (3-shot group).

9. When was my Weatherby firearm manufactured?

A. You can learn the history and lineage of your Weatherby firearm, researched and authenticated through the Weatherby company records. You’ll receive an embossed letter of authenticity which verifies the country of origin, the date your firearm was shipped, where the firearm was originally delivered and a list of features, including any custom embellishments. Each certificate is personally signed by Roy E. Weatherby, Jr., President, and Dean Rumbaugh, Company Historian. Cost for each serial number search is $50 ($75 for Custom rifles, $100 for Special Edition or Commemorative rifles). You may print and mail the Authenticity Order Form or for information, write Company Historian, 1605 Commerce Way, Paso Robles, CA 93446.

Additional historical information can also be gathered from Weatherby. The Man. The Gun. The Legend. This 290-page biography, written by Grits and Tom Gresham, contains a tremendous amount of historical information that you may find valuable in the search for your firearm’s history. Standard hardbound copies are just $30.00. Proceeds benefit the Weatherby Foundation International. See your Weatherby dealer today or order online.

10. My gun needs service. Where do I send it?

A. There is a list of Weatherby authorized service centers located on this web site. We recommend you send it to the service center nearest you.

11. What is Weatherby’s warranty policy?

A. The Weatherby service policy reads as follows:

“Weatherby is a name that has been synonymous with quality firearms for over 60 years. All Weatherby firearms are manufactured of the finest materials, and have been thoroughly inspected and tested in every phase of production.

Because of the confidence we have in our products, Weatherby does not provide a written warranty, but rather stands behind its reputation for customer service and satisfaction.

Simply stated, we will consider requests for service or repair of Weatherby firearms on a case-by-case basis. A determination will be made, taking into consideration such things as the age and condition of the firearm, and the circumstances surrounding its malfunction or other problem.

Weatherby will not be responsible for defects resulting from ordinary wear and tear, alterations by unauthorized persons, accidents, misuse, use of incorrect or other than factory-loaded ammunition, or failure to provide reasonable and normal maintenance.

Should any Weatherby firearm require service or repair under this service policy, it must be delivered transportation prepaid to an authorized Weatherby Service Center. The product must be accompanied by a proof of purchase, and a letter explaining the problem. The rifle should also be insured by the owner at time of shipment, as Weatherby, Inc. can accept no responsibility for damage or loss in transit. Weatherby will pay all charges to return the product to the owner if it is accepted for service or repair under the provisions of this policy.”

12. How do I adjust the trigger pull on my Mark V rifle?

A. The Mark V trigger assembly has two socket cap (Allen-type) adjusting screws. The socket cap screw on the bottom of the trigger assembly adjusts for weight and trigger pull, and is for your use. The socket cap screw on the top of the trigger assembly adjusts sear engagement (“creep”), and is for use by Weatherby factory and Authorized Service Center personnel only.

WARNING!! Do not attempt to adjust sear engagement, make any adjustments other than as described below, or modify the trigger assembly in any way. Improper adjustment or modification of any firearm trigger assembly can result in the firearm discharging prematurely due to a “hair trigger,” minor bumps or movement, possibly resulting in serious injury or death. The trigger assembly has been set at the factory for weight of trigger pull appropriate for most shooters. If you require a heavier or lighter weight of trigger pull, adjust as follows:

  1. 1. Unload the rifle as follows:

Keep the muzzle of the rifle pointed in a safe direction and your fingers out of the trigger guard and away from the trigger at all times while unloading the rifle.

    1. Move the safety lever to the forward position to unlock the bolt.
    2. Raise the bolt handle and pull the bolt to the rear to extract and eject any chambered cartridge.
    3. Place one hand under the floorplate to catch cartridges to be removed from the magazine.
    4. With your free hand, press the floorplate release to open the floorplate and remove any cartridges from the magazine.
    5. Reposition the magazine follower inside the magazine and close the floorplate.
    6. Visually double check the chamber and the magazine to make sure there are no cartridges remaining in the rifle.

  2. Removal of stock is not necessary. The socket cap adjusting screw is accessible through the opening in the trigger guard, just forward of the trigger.

  3. To increase weight of trigger pull, with a hex key (Allen-type) wrench of proper size, turn the bottom socket cap screw clockwise (when viewed from the bottom) until desired weight of trigger pull is established.

To decrease weight of trigger pull, with a hex key of proper size, turn the bottom socket cap screw counter-clockwise (when viewed from the bottom) until desired weight of trigger pull is established.

NOTE: For safety reasons, weight of trigger pull will not be adjusted below
three pounds. To determine trigger weight requires use of a trigger scale.

  4. After adjusting the trigger to the desired weight, engage the safety and pull the trigger to its limit. Release it slowly to ensure that it returns to the forward position. If the trigger does not return to its position, you have adjusted the trigger pull too lightly.
